Finance Manager
Location: Clapham, London, office-based
Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
Reports to: CEO
Build the finance backbone of a growing global brand
Original Duckhead is a London-based umbrella brand selling across wholesale and D2C, with customers and partners across the UK, Europe, the US, and other international markets.
We are looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to bring order, clarity, and control to our finance function.
This is a role for someone who likes clean data, tidy reporting, and strong financial discipline. You will own the day-to-day bookkeeping in-house, prepare monthly management accounts, own UK VAT, maintain a rolling cash flow, and help create a finance base the business can actually rely on.
You will work closely with the CEO and external accountants, but this is not an oversight role. You will be in the detail, doing the work, tightening the structure, and making the numbers usable.
Why this role matters
This role is critical to improving visibility, control, and reporting quality across the business. The aim is to build a finance function that gives clear insight into cash, costs, margin, and performance across channels, markets, and key areas of spend.
What you’ll own
Bookkeeping and finance operations
- Own the day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero
- Maintain accurate and reconciled records across GBP, EUR, and USD accounts
- Post journals, accruals, prepayments, and month-end adjustments
- Reconcile bank accounts, payment platforms, and control accounts
- Own accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Own credit control, including chasing overdue invoices and maintaining visibility on aged debt
- Help maintain discipline around customer payment terms and credit checks where needed
- Keep the finance base clean, organised, and accurate
Management accounts and reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts
- Produce clear monthly reporting on P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
- Deliver variance analysis and commentary to the CEO
- Build meaningful cost-centre reporting across the business
- Improve visibility on channel performance, margin, and overheads
- Create reporting that shows clearly what is driving profitability, including trade shows, projects, and major areas of spend where relevant
Cash flow and control
- Maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast
- Track key cash commitments and upcoming outflows
- Improve visibility on receivables, payables, VAT, payroll, and other major costs
- Strengthen financial control and reporting discipline across the business
VAT, multi-market finance, and accountant coordination
- Own UK VAT returns and filings
- Prepare clean finance data for external accountants and advisors
- Work with external accountants on EU VAT, US sales tax / nexus, and year-end requirements where needed
- Maintain accurate multi-currency reporting across the business
- Ensure the underlying finance data is organised and reliable enough for external advice and compliance work
Systems and process improvement
- Improve the structure and cleanliness of Xero over time
- Help create more consistent reporting across Xero, Cin7, Shopify, Stripe, Faire, and related systems
- Reduce manual errors and improve finance processes where possible
What we’re looking for
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) required
- Experience in a hands-on finance role in a retail, wholesale, consumer goods, or e-commerce business
- Experience working across multiple markets and currencies is required
- Strong bookkeeping and management accounts experience
- Strong understanding of accruals, prepayments, journals, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Experience owning UK VAT
- Experience working with external accountants and tax advisors
- Exposure to EU VAT and US sales tax / nexus coordination
- Strong attention to detail and strong organisational discipline
- Strong commercial understanding of costs, margin, and reporting
- Comfortable working in a small, ambitious business where ownership matters
Particularly relevant experience
We would be especially interested in candidates who have:
- worked in a B2B and D2C business
- worked across the UK, EU, and US
- built or cleaned up finance reporting in Xero
- worked with Shopify, Cin7, Stripe, Faire, and multi-currency finance
- created meaningful cost-centre or project-level reporting in a fast-moving consumer business
What success looks like
Within the first few months:
- bookkeeping is being managed accurately in-house
- monthly management accounts are clean and on time
- UK VAT is owned internally and filed correctly
- reconciliations are up to date
- the 13-week cash flow is in place and maintained
- cost centres are clear and useful
- the CEO has much better visibility on costs, cash, and performance
- external accountants are receiving strong, organised data
To apply
Please send your CV and a short note explaining:
- the type of business you have worked in
- your experience with management accounts, bookkeeping, and VAT
- one example of messy finance data or reporting that you cleaned up and made usable
